How to find your special place to stay in Florence
By:
Andrew Colt
Finding an ideal accommodation in Florence is
not a difficult task: the city is very small and there are
many beautiful areas showing personal benefits...let's see
some of the most beautiful locations, so you can choose the
one that fits your taste!
Florence hotels near Duomo
This is the ancient centre of Florence. Piazza del Duomo is
the religious heart of Florence (as opposed to the spiritual
side represented by Piazza della Signoria). The Duomo of
Santa Maria del Fiore is almost certainly the most known
architectural masterpiece in Florence and was realized by
Filippo Brunelleschi. The Bell Tower made by Giotto is
dressed in attractive red, white and green marbles.
Plus - An incredibly lively area, always busy with
pedestrians, shops, cafes and typical Tuscan restaurants, is
the central ideal place to start visiting Florence major
museums and monuments.
Accommodation near Santa Maria Novella station
In the middle of the city centre you can find the Santa
Maria Novella central train station (SMN) the main work
designed by the Italian Rationalism: a modern look joins the
classical style of the white facade. The project was made by
Gruppo Toscano and Giovanni Michelacci.
Benefits - certainly the most comfortable are if you travel
by train! But you can also take a train and reach everyday
Florence beautiful surroundings (San Gimignano, Siena and
the Chianti area).
Florence hotels near Lungarno
The Arno river, originating on Mount Falterona in the
Apennines, crosses Florence, where it passes historical
bridges as the Ponte Vecchio, the only bridge in Florence to
survive to World War II, now staging the famous artisan
goldsmiths workshops. The Arno river flooded this city in
historical times, the last occasion being the famous flood
of 1966.
Plus - A romantic and quiet location, crossing all the
historical centre. Many hotels feature rooms with the most
evocative views of the historical centre.
Accommodation in the area of Fiesole
Fiesole is a little Etruscan town that still preserve some
interesting traces of the ancient walls. Other than Etruscan
ruins and a gorgeous Roman arena, you can enjoy the most
stunning panorama of Florence.
Plus - You can visit some of the most beautiful parks in
Florence and breathe the air of city hills, just two steps
far from the busy streets of the city centre.
